I remained in the hospital for almost 6 weeks. Most of my hospital stay is a blank except for the few memories of 1 or 2 meals, 3 or 4 visits from our pastor and a couple of visits with my wife and children. During this time I had a lot of therapy—which I also do not remember. When it was time to go home, we drove home in a wheelchair accessible van that was purchased by 10 of my fraternity buddies. What good friends I have, to this day they have remained my very loyal friends.

After 1-1/2 years of therapy and hard work, my doctors told me that, although I had good progress, I should not hope to get any better. This was not acceptable.

My speech improved and my physical functions were stronger. My memory for numbers improved from two to eight. With improvement in my communication came a feeling of greater self worth. I began to want something more in my life. My wife, children and friends suggested that I bottle and sell the barbeque sauce that I have been making and that we had all enjoyed since 1981.

It took me another three years of research and learning to find the right direction and the right people to put my product on the market.
